Mar Hicks
Description: Mar Hicks is a historian of technology, gender and modern Europe, noted for her work on the history of women in computing. Hicks is currently a professor at the Illinois Institute of Technology. Hicks sits on the executive committee of the Society for the History of Technology and is a related editor for the IEEE Annals of the History of Computing. Hicks' work focuses on issues of gender discrimination in the computer industry. Mar thinks most tech companies don't really want a ton of workers who will solve real problems. They want cogs that fit into the existing system. She also believes Google can ask questions about ethics in AI, but the company doesn't want answers. -
